Wandering Spleen

Wandering spleen is an uncommon entity, more frequent in women of reproductive age and in children. Wandering spleen is probably most often a result of congenital anomalies of development of the dorsal mesogastrium, but acquired factors may have
a
role
in certain instances. Patients present commonly with an asymptomatic mass, mass and subacute abdominal or gastrointestinal complaints.
We experienced 2 cases of wandering spleen with torsion of its pedicle in 1989 and 1993. Both of the patients were females. One was 39 and the other was 9 year old. We did splenectomies because of strangulaion with uneventfull recovery.
